This small artist's book is made with cotton paper in a matchbox. It simulates a coffin, allusive to Day of the Dead festivities. The color of the box, paper flowers and textile is the same as the traditional altars. However, the piece's narrative is not festive at all, since it reflects about the violence Mexico was during this period (2014 - 2018). Drug cartels, political disappearance, military attacks on civilians, bodies dismembered and scattered all over public spaces or found within black plastic-bags. This was the day-to-day reality. In this pieces, the material delicacy contrasts with the roughness of the discourse, creating a protest voice contained into a small object.

Sometimes I draw. Sometimes I paint. Sometimes I make objects. But most of all, I make artists' books. For me, the book is a sacred, magic object. One that has different kinds of power in it, from a time - capsule that shows specific events, cultural heritage, family stories, to a strong critical voice. Whenever I paint, I focus on form and color. Color has been always interesting for me and I keep exploring its possibilities. I also integrate drawing-like strokes into painting in order to create something in between. Finally, Drawing manifests itself within my work either on paper, graphic arts such as printmaking or litography and in embroidery. For me, Embroidery is at the same time, drawing and writing. In terms of subject, I reflect about memory, melancholic figures and gender-based violence. I find today's world manifests through these atmospheres.
